Monday 5th of December 2016, was a memorable one in the lives of the marginalised students of Uniben Ekehuan Campus. A deep thought down. .. will indeed leave anyone concerned with the question, Is this actually a University of Benin? .
At about 6am on Monday the students who had remained passive on the past and present happenings on the campus displayed their long locked up grievances by taking to active protest. They barracaded the entire campus thereby preventing entrance/exit from the school.
The protest was as a result of the unfair treatment given to the campus (Ekehuan Campus) compared to Ugbowo Campus, There's a highly transparent case of imbalance
The only means yo putting an end to the protest, was just one request chant "We want to see the VC". Before the arrival of the VC, was the unwarranted arrival of the recently suspended SUG President Laureta Obakpolor, She was unceremoniously sent out of the campus amidst the outcry of "Shame on you". She have never had our interest at heart.
Shortly after this, was the surprising arrival of the Vice Chancellor of the prestigious University of Benin Prof. Faraday Orunmwese amidst some Uniben top officials and one armed man. The students threw their complaints to him, The dilapidated boys and girls hostels, epileptic power supply, an eyesore of a sportscomplex, under-staffed departments, non-functional single Access Bank ATM etc. The VC was also taken on a tour round the campus, at the end, the VC promised a 24 hours response to their plight.
Yesterday 6th of December 2016, Th VC proofed to be a man of his words when as at about 4:30pm he visited the campus again in the company of some top bank officals to see the site in which the ATM machine and Banks can be best situated.
The VC gave a more shocking surprise today 7th of December 2016, when at about 9am a massive 1000KVA power generating plant worth 18million naira landed in Ekehuan campus.
i am a student of uniben(ugbowo) and i can testify to the state of the ekenhuan campus. it's a relief to see that some actions have finally been taken, however, in the midst of happiness, please try to edit your articles properly seeing your blog is now on a higher level.
